This year’s Met Gala theme was in honour of an avant-garde designer Rew Kawabuko of Comme des Ga rcons ( French for „like some boys„, which is a Japanese fashion label founded and headed by Rei Kawakubo). Many stars gave homage to the designer’s work, while others opted for more classic red carpet look. Rihanna led the pack, with the look that came straight from the (Des Garcones) runway…In this playful layered creation, Badgalriri was up to the task of the night’s theme, showing that she is always ready to experiment in fashion like a true trendsetter as she is. Her untamed sense for fashion was accessorized with a highlighter-on-the-point makeup looks in a Geisha inspired style .
Charming Kate Hudson went for a white sculptural simplicity ( dress by Stella McCartney) which she upgraded with a new ultra-blond hair, styled in a high messy bun.
Kim K also followed in similar footsteps, all in white, wearing a very simple off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood number, looking effortlessly beautiful with no accessories at all, which was refreshing comparing to her previous red carpet looks. Hair & make-up done to the perfection, she went for a natural look (her glam team: Mario Dedivanovic make-up & Jen Atkin Hair).
From the Kardashian-Jenner clan, the rest of the two attendees were Kendal & Kyle, from which my personal favorite of the night was Kendal. Leaving little to the imagination, Kendal wore barely-there-at-all La Perla dress, in a true Kardashian style. Surprisingly bold act of showing her assets to the public, with a translucent fabric draping over a lace thong on a full display. Way to go Kendal! It seems that the Kim’s sister has finally found her confidence and freedom of expression. Her signature-red lipstick goes well with that beautiful smile (Estee Lauder, she is the face of the brand) She was the true Diva of the nigh.
The rest of the models appearances (Gigi Hadid and Lily Aldridge) seemed to be inspired by Angelina 1 leg out moment, with both of them putting the accent on it. Aldridge’s face covered with a veil was something new, adding amount of drama to the carpet, although the red boots just didn’t do for me with the dress…Gigi on the other hand, overdid the entire look by adding a glimpse of a knee-high stockings to it. The entire look would go much better without it.
( Lily is wearing a Ralph Lauren Collection custom white silk one-shoulder evening dress, Balenciaga high boots/ Gigi in Tomy Hilfiger)
Other moments of the night were two red-carpet couple debuts – by Selena Gomez and The Weeknd (whose ex Bella Hadid was also in the attendance) and Jennifer Lopez who accessorized her evening style with a new beau Alex Rodrigez. It would be safe to say that Bella tried too hard to impress, the lace bodysuit was just too much (courtesy of Alexander Wang). Selena Gomez shined bright like a newly in love person does, bringing back elegance to the show (silk chiffon dress with vintage lace and hand-sewn floral embroidery from the Coach 1941 Pre-Fall 2017collection).
JLo wore a sky blue Valentino gown with a sheer top layer that covered nearly her entire body.
The Award for the worst dressed of the night goes to Katy Perry, who hit the red carpet in a jaw-dropping (but not in a good way) Maison Margiela Artisanal creation by John Galliano. Why all this together didn’t work, you can see for yourself…
Too much, huh? Miss Perry looked like a red-widow (oops!)
As for Queen Madonna, we might have mistaken her for somebody who is going to a war wearing Moschino. We would expect much more from someone who used to be a style-icon (Moschino by Jeremy Scott Camouflage Gown.
At the end, see how the stars enjoyed the party, and a bit of a free time for a cigarette-break or some selfies in a toilet (both of which are prohibited on the Gala, by a strict rules set by Anna Wintour…sure she will be slimming down the next year’s guest list for the event 😉 Some rule-breakers those celebs, aren’t they?
Lighting a cigarette Dakota Johnson…some glam-team in the restroom featuring Bella, Stella Maxwell, Paris Jackson & Ruby Rose.
